Main task: Sountrack

Soundtack
For my film i must ensure that the music and soundtrack that i use fits with the genre and what is happening at that time. As my film is a horror i must use a song that would create tension for the audience. As the setting for my film is set at a girls slumber party i must also ensure that i use songs that are conventional for that age group. I have therefore chosen a track that is very cheesy as the girls are able to have fun and dance around to. I can show that the girls are inocent by the dances that they are doing and show how vaunerable they are. The girls are therefore able to show how much fun they are having. So the missing girl would seem to be in much more harm as the girls do not understand the danger that they are actually in.

Main task: Titles research

Titles
whilst all of this is happening i must add the titles to my film. These are conventional features of a film. You are expected to be able to find who the main actors are in the film, who the director is and also people that pay a large part in the making of the film as the beginning of the film is showing. I would have to show these in my film and also choose the style and way that they come onto it to show effect. For example if i was wanting to show who each character is i would show a shot with just them in it and write the name of the actor in the transition. I can do this in many different ways.

I love you Beth Cooper

For example in the film 'I Love You Beth Cooper' you can see that they don't introduce the characters in the film just the producer and the name of the film. They then do into setting the scene with an establishing shot. In my film this would be good as I would be able to show exactly where the scene is set because you can show the surroundings. As it will be a horror film this is important as i must show the audience the outside or the possibility to escape ect. As the place that i have chosen to set my film is very closed and to itself it would show that it would be hard for them to find help and escape; adding to the tension.
In the beginning two minutes they set the genre and the basic story of the film. You can get allot of information about each of the characters from the roles that they play in the beginning and there personality's come across very well. I need to ensure that I do this in my film as the audience needs to understand what my film is about in order for them to want to see more of it. I also need to ensure that i introduce all of my characters well as the audience will need to have a general idea of the characters right from the beginning of the film so that they wont get confused.
Cruel Intentions
In the movie 'Cruel Intentions' you can see that they use a camera going around America. This sets the scene whilst giving you the titles. In comparison to 'I Love You Beth Cooper' you can see the amount of titles that are used. In my film it would be difficult to show as many titles as this as i would be wasting allot of valuable filming time.
Music is played throughout the beginning of the film. This helps you to understand the film as the music that is used in the film must correspond with the genre of the film. For example if if it was a children's film the music is likely to be a pop genre. However if rock music was used this would be unconventional and the film would be likely to be unsuccessful.
For my movie I can use a soundtrack as with it being a slumber party they would be listening and dancing around to music. The music that i would use would be something like pop, sort of a cheesy song to tease the audience. The girls could be singing along to it and having fun but then the music could change to something much more recent and the atmosphere could totally change. This would show a clear contrast between earlyer ages and now.

Main task: Final Idea

I came to the conclusion that I am going to create a horror film. I have come about this by watching different films and taking ideas from each and decided which film genre would be the best for me to use. In a conventional horror film allot of dramatic tension is used both at the begging and throughout the film. Therefore in my film i would be able to set the scene, introduce characters and have a major event in the two minutes that i am given to make my film.
I have also decided that with the ideas that i had chosen i would be able to show the greatest effects with the slumber party idea. This is because there would be many characters involved so i can show the different relationships between them using a verity of different effective shot types.
Basic plot outline
A group of girls have a slumber party. The girls are chatting and dancing around to music then one of the friends go to the toilet, but doesn't return. Whilst the girls go downstairs to get alcohol two of the girls go outside to have a cigarette(dark). One of the girls say that they can see a white face outside in the distance but the other girl says to stop messing around and to get back inside. When the girls return to the room to wait for the others to return they notice that the bathroom door is still locked from when the other girl went to the toilet and try to see if the girl is still there but gets sidetracked as the others return. They begin dancing again and drinking then the two girls try going around to see if they can access the bathroom but don't get any reply so break entry only to find that there is no-body there. They begin putting on more make-up and a white face is seen in the reflection of the mirror and starts to get closer to them but due to the loud music the others cant hear there screams.

Main task: Ideas

For my main task i have to ensue that i have thought of many different ideas for my film. This is because i must show that i have thought allot about my target audience. I need to ensure that i have thought about different genres of film and what the conventional features of this genre are. I have thought about several different genres and have come up with different ideas for each.
I have thought about making a comedy. This would be difficult to do as you would have to ensure that what you have filmed has a comical value. I also have to ensure that i have thought about my target audience and what they would find comical. As i have chosen the target audience for my film to be 15+. I would have to ensure that i have used different values that are understood in this age group for example smoking, drinking and drugs. This would be understood well for this age group as they pay a large part in teenage life.
Different ideas for this could be:
·         A comical stuntman; similar to hot rod.
·         Remake of a film such as something like epic movie.
·         Trailer spoofs
·         Nerds trying to fit in with others in there school or collage. For example trying to have a big party but it being unsuccessful.
·         Drugs raid
·         People trying to learn new skills
·         James bond style movie but with young children
·         Unsuccessful band
·         Gangster rappers but cannot rap; trying to fit in with the crowd
I could also base my film on general teenage life and all of the factors that are common to pop up. I could show the different parts in teenage life in different ways. I could show different interpretations on this. These factors could be:

·        Parties
  • Drugs
  • Smoking
  • Pregnancy
  • Sex
  • Alcohol blunders
  • Teenage gangs
  • Cultures
  • Racism
I could also make a horror film. This could be made by using different factors in teenage life. This is likely to scare this age group more as it would be about things that they are familiar with some ideas could be:

·        Slumber party with a horror twist
·        Camping horrors
·        Party murder
·        School murder rampage
·        Curses from older people that the teenager may have abused in some way

preliminary task research

Understanding
With my preliminary task I will need to ensure that i understand my question fully. When making my film i need to ensure that i use the 180 degree rule. This entails making my film look like it has been filmed from all angles. This would show each characters facial expressions and the view that they have.I will also need to consider the shot-reverse-shot. With this i will need to show one character then move to another and then back again. This helps to tell the story and set the scene and current situation. For example if i was to develop idea one then I could show the character entering the house then going to the next shot of the sister sat at the table waiting then reverse the shot back to show the other character waiting to enter the room. This is very effective because you get to see why the person is addicted about entering the room and also helps the viewer get a better understanding on what is happening.
Target Audience
For my piece my target audience would be adults or teenagers. This is because the piece is about alcoholics and therefore smaller children would not find this appealing.
Equipment

I will need to think about what equipment i am going to use. This is important because I need to ensure that I have everything prepared before I begin filming.

I will need:

  • A camera
  • A tripod
  • Lighting, this could include lights to plug in.
  • Microphone
  • Soundtrack if needed
  • Storyboard

I need to ensure that I have these things otherwise if i were to try and film without them my video wouldn't be to a very good standard and I would loose out on marks.
Time
I need to ensure that I manage my time well. This includes planning when I will be filming. I need to ensure that I have chosen a date and time well so that everything is right how I need it to be. I also need to make sure that I plan my work well in advance. This would help me because I will know that I have filmed everything that i need to so therefore i wont be needing to go back and add bits into the film and loose marks because the time and setting wasn't right. If I don’t leave enough time for research planning and filming then my film would not be exactly what it should be.
Storyboard
I need to make sure that I make a good storyboard for my film. This will ensure that I will know exactly what I am doing in order for my filming to flow. By doing this I will be able to know wither my film will work well or i need to change it without having to re-do all of my film and waste time.
Location
The location I choose must be exactly what i need to portray the idea of what is happening. If i were to choose to show a romantic meal but shot the film in a school this would not show the right image I would be trying to create.
Script

I will need to have created a script for my piece. This is essential because otherwise my Characters wouldn’t know what they were meant to be saying therefore i would have to stop the camera from rolling and inform them. This would slow down my production process and harm the overall quality of my piece if i had to totally edit parts out that the dialogue was incorrect in.

Prelimanary ideas

Continuity task:
Involving filming and editing a character opening a door. Crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she then exchanges a couple of lines of diologue.

Ideas:

  1. Drunken girl has a confrontation with her sister about her drinking problem.
  2. Husband and wife have confrontation about an affair.
  3. Mother and Son have confrontation about a drugs problem.
  4. Two friends; one with an eating problem
  5. Boy and Girl; girl says shes pregnant.
Advantages:

  1. With this idea i would be able to explore the use of a drunken person. I would be able to show effective camera angles of facial and body expressions that would show how drunk the person is. I would also be able to show how the character is hiding the drinking problem her sister.
  2. With this idea i could use camera angles to my advantage. I would be able to show great facial expressions and emotions dure in the confrontation. I can how nervs by showing various body language.
  3. With this idea i could show different emotions to my advantage. I would be able to show great facial emotions. I would also be able to use camera angles to show the different features of the characters drug problem.
  4. With this choise i would be able to use camera angles to my advantage. I would be abe to use my setting to my advantage also; i would be using a dinning room so therefore i would be able to show the relashionship between the daughter and the mother as they would be sat face to face. I would also be able to show the facial expresions towards the food.
  5. With this choise i would be able to show expresions very well. I would be able to show the communication and facial expresions well.
